Stone Age and Primitive Art Festival Video
Calling all Outdoor GeekGals & Guys: Wanna learn how to brain tan a deer hide 'til it's soft as a baby's blanket; or craft a handmade persimmon wood bow with arrows to hunt game? Or perhaps you'd just like to watch, as a graceful bowl is carved, using only specialized tools fashioned from indigenous materials. At the Ochlockonee River State Park in NW Florida, an annual gathering of passionate practitioners meet for fellowship, knowledge sharing, and to keep these so-called "primitive" arts alive. As the GeekGal found out last February, "primitive" is by no-means simple; it's hard, but satisfying work, often requiring a lifetime of experience to perfect. Next year, she plans to stay the whole weekend, and try her hand at flint-knapping, atlatl throwing, and more. Mark the date, February 7th through 9th, 2009, and stay tuned!
